My darling son will grimace and be thinking, “It should not be reorganization, it should be DISPOSING.” But then, that is His philosophy. I am so happy to get stuff into a well-lighted unit where I can SEE what is there. I have had stuff in storage for years that I couldn’t find when I wanted it. Now I can see what isn’t worth keeping and can start getting rid of it.
Tomorrow I will have free use of a moving truck that the storage company loans out to its customers to move stuff into or out of units. One of the office managers has a cousin who will bring his pick up tomorrow and work from noon till 4 or 5 or however long it takes us to get the shelves and remaining stuff out of the units I am giving up. He came down to the units while I was working with Laurie tonight. Laurie is one of the office managers and she just walked over tonight and asked if she could help. I was thrilled spitless. She is slender and very strong. She carried all the heavy stuff and I carried what I called “the feathers”—the light weight stuff—silk flowers, assorted household décor items. We worked till about 8:30—it was starting to get dark.
I have to be up and over there before noon tomorrow. My helper is the cousin of the other office manager, Lindsey. He has a pick-up and will drive that and then use which ever truck he finds easiest to use. We actually have only a small ways to move the stuff, but the shelves have to be taken apart if I move them by SUV. Putting them back together after taking them apart just takes so much time. By having use of a truck, they can remain as they are. I hope that he can do the moving and I can remain in the big unit putting stuff on the shelves and sorting. There are a lot of little fabric Walmart bags containing the small stuff from the shelves tonight. I cleared them all off so that there are only shelves and one rolling garment rack to move. Then I can have him get up on the step stool to remove the nails I put in to hang the off season coats. I was not looking forward to that.
Best news of all—the young man has replaced a trailer roof before, so his folks will not worry about him being up on my roof to clear off the little twigs from the storms of past winter and then he can clean the gutters. I haven’t asked him yet if he is willing to crawl under the house to put the furnace pipes back together. I sure hope he will.
I am so mad at my missing memory. I KNOW that boy’s name. But I can’t remember it to save me, so I am reduced to calling him “the young man” and “he.” Crapola! At any rate, I told him I would pay him fifty dollars—which is only ten bucks and hour if it takes till 5:00. If he works faster than that, he still gets the money because it is SO worth that much to me. If we don’t get absolutely everything out, it will be okay. What I want him to move are the shelves and the heavy cubes that I use for my off season shoes. The boxes I want him to move are the ones with records, books, and videos. The light ones that are holding more Christmas stuff and household stuff, I can move after the truck goes back. I have paid for them till the end of the month, but if I clear out sooner than that, I will get a refund.
It was a lovely day for this work. It was in the mid-seventies and there was a strong breeze. It was enough to keep me from sweating into a pile of melted blubber. I have the little battery radio over there, so I was able to listen to the talk about the football team and then listen to our baseball game—which we won. It was Felix’ 4th full game one-hit shut out this year. He is just super! We got the one run on a homer by the new guy we just got from Rosie’s Toronto Blue Jays—Eric Thames. Our much-loved and much-missed center fielder who has been on the DL came back today. He got a hit, stole a base and made a fantastic catch in center field taking away at least a double from the Twins. Welcome back, handsome!
Little Man is getting used to playing in his kennel in the unit. I took over the one that is usually on the front side of the house. He has 2, one on each side of the house, so that I can let him be out in the nice weather when I am watering or weeding in the yard. But now it is in the unit and placed on top of a carpet scrap I had rolled up in one of the old units. It is near the front so he can watch all the people drive by but far enough inside that he feels safe. He looks like a little Prince, lying with his front paws crossed in front of him. He has fans among all the workers, and everyone always comes in to pet him and talk to him.
It is fast approaching midnight and I am watching “Major Crimes” which is the follow-up for “The Closer.” I like it. It seems funny not to be seeing Kyra Sedgwick, but the new format is very interesting and thought-provoking. I really hope that I can get some real sleep tonight. Tomorrow is going to be a real challenge, to say the least.
I can’t wait till Thursday night. That is the last pre-season game for the Seahawks, and the coach has announced that the new little rookie, Russell Wilson will be our starter. He is so foxy! He has fleet feet! LOL I am excited about it, anyway. Go Hawks!
