A Day in the Dawg Haus
I live a small and unimportant life, but there are those who care about what is happening to me, so I am going to use this means to reach out. I don't expect anyone to read it or care what it says, but it will be fun to have a place to tell the world what I am thinking and feeling. I want to share the story of Poco and his life and share pictures of him as he grows.

I haven't tried using the voice recorder yet, so I am facing a night of adventure typing on the FIRE.
Tonight was the 3rd Democratic Debate. I love these things because I know all of these candidates and I want all.of them to do well. I taped it, but it is so long I will feel really guilty sitting still or lying down long enough to watch it again.
Kamala Harris did exactly what I thought they all should do. She focused on little donnie. She had one speech directly to tRump which she ended by telling him to go back to watching FOX NEWS. Beto was also excellent. Bernie sounded like he was losing his voice. Pete had a few good comments as did Amy.
Today I discovered that we were down to the last few puppy puddle pads, so a trip to Costco was necessary. I checked the bank balances and decided I'd also get 2 bully sticks and a Costco chicken. I was so frustrated and sad to see sets of of 5 pillar candles with the battery candle flames for only $19.98, but I couldn't get them. I had stopped at KCU and withdrew $60.00 from the 60 account. There are only $17.00+ left in there.
I looked at a box of Rice Krispy Treats for $15, but I put it back. I also looked at some desserts, but got a $6.00+ carton of Kiwis, instead. I had left Poco home because it was too sunny to leave him in a car. He looked very sad.
On the way to Costco I had stopped to get Pokey a couple of bully sticks. So fsr, he isn't thrilled with them, but he had a big dish of Costco chicken, so he wasn't at all hungry.
After dinner, we had a lot of close thunder and he got all crazy. He wanted down, then back up. Down and back up. Scared out of his mind with each clap of thunder. Finally we had a real rain downpour. Short but very heavy. I grabbed PQ and forced him to lie STILL! He finally calmed down.
I'm really sleepy, so will shutdown at 11:56!

THE NIGHT DARLENE FELL DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE!
So Happy Trusting Fool that I am, I thought “Try Firefox and see it IT will play them.” Problem is, I have not used Firefox for nearly a year, so when I clicked the bookmark icon to open my FB page, it asked for my password. I can not remember all of these darned things, so I went to my file and looked it up. Typed it in and FB said “WRONG.” Thus began my midnight trip down the Rabbit Hole!
I used the laptop, e-mail and the cell phone in an attempt to set a new password. I had to seek codes that would not appear where they were supposed to, and when I would enter the code they sent via-email, which is what the website was telling me to use, the website would tell me NO that was the wrong code. I kept trying and trying.
The first 2 times I thought it was working, I got the message that my new password was too much like my old one, I had to have a new one. So I would make up a new one—and THEN use the wrong damned code. So I would have to start over! Now it is telling me that I changed my password at a little after midnight, but it does not recognize any of the passwords I tried, and I have NO idea which one it accepted because the website did not tell me that it HAD. I want to SCREAM!!!!
Finally, when I was about to cry, FB told me I had tried to enter too many codes. To try later. I had so much I wanted to tell people tonight.
The Mariners won 8-1 and they were playing Detroit, who had been going great guns till just the past few games. We won 2 out of 3, losing only King Felix’ game because of the crappy umpire. They are flying tonight to play the Washington Nationals for the next 2 or 3 days.
I did another afternoon of “cherry duty” raking up downed squishy cherries from the dirt under the tree and along the sides of the terraces of my yard, along with the fallen lavender blossoms from the Rose of Sharon bushes. Then set the sprinkler on the front yard and got ready to hand water the sides.
First had to go to the side of the house where my back porch is and set up the pen for Poquito, then carry the hose to the back from the front. Thank God for this feather weight shrinking hose. Next pay day I am getting a separate set for the other side of the house and stop this silly hauling stuff.
Went back to the front and got the dog and the big scoop (the giant dust pan from Home Depot) and did the cherries, then the dropped flowers. Then watered all the big potted plants back there. I MUST get my little cherry tree into the ground this fall. It is not going to make it for another year in a container, and those cherries were delish! Need to do some serious further pruning on the two big Hydrangeas because they are so wide, they don’t leave much room for my wide self to get by between them and Tom and Robbie’s hedge.
Also, knowing state law now, I can whack the hell out of the huge overgrown Rhodies on my back corner-from-hell. The homeliest peachy-pink one if at least 2 feet over my head now. Far too big for that space.
Got the garbage and recyle totes down to the street and saw half a dozen more darned Dandelions back up and ugly in the cracks of my driveway. Have to cut those off tomorrow. I tried vinegar which was supposed to kill them, but all it did was dry up the greenery from that growth and as soon as I removed that, the new stuff grew right back. RATS!
Earlier in the day, I had taken Poquito to Silverdale to Petsmart to try some new little cans of dog food. The clerk suggested a kind that has protein as its first ingredient and only 5% veggies and no grains. All of this is supposed to be a good thing, and when I offered him some in the car (because he had refused his turkey I had cooked for him last night and I knew he was hungry) he took about 2 tiny bites and quit. So I put it back in the bag till we got home. Served it to him at dinner time and got the “I won’t eat that” routine, so after I finished eating, I hand fed the little ogre. He downed the whole little can (the size of a small tuna can.) Now he is sleeping like a baby. Best thing that happened today.
There is one more entry after this one—actually written last month, I think. I am going to go re-read it after I get this posted, since FB is closed to me. I don’t know how I am going to get back in FB. I can’t access my security questions. THAT pisses me off! Why have them if I can’t use them? I tried following directions from the FB Help page but of course, nothing in my experience was coming up like the directions said it would. I would just leave but there is so much stuff stored there that I want to access to save. Curse words…..many, many of them!
I found some darling MahJong games on Google with Halloween tiles, so will go play a couple of those! Good night to you all!

I NEED TO MAKE TIME TO GET BACK TO JOURNALING!
I am using Windows Live Writer because it posts to my blog with no problem, but when I tried to open it today, it wasn’t even IN my list of programs. So I blew over half an hour attempting to discover (at Microsoft.com) how to download the program. When I got a setup program downloaded and checked it out, it wanted to reload all of the big programs I already have (including a lot that I didn’t want to risk losing content I now have.) If it reloaded my Live Gallery program and lost all of those photos, I’m not sure my heart could have stood it, so I backed out.
Went back to my list of programs and deleted one from the top of my display panel when I click on START. As soon as I did, here was the Writer program back in view. It is STILL not showing in my list of “all programs.” I am completely frustrated, but I can at least write!
But I can’t write like I WANT to. For some unknown issue I am now writing on a teeny screen using less than half of the page and the huge rest of the page is empty! I have wasted more time searching for some way to enlarge the area and have totally failed, so I decided to just UP the size of the font to an 18 so I can see it, and will reduce it to a smaller size before I post. By the way, there is a full page width ribbon at the top just FULL of interesting commands—word count, find, select all, spell check, hyperlink, picture, video, formatting choices, cut, copy, paste, publish to various blogs—but NO way to enlarge the editing page. All the programmers must have good eyes!
My original title of needing to make time to journal is a reference to the fact that every time I am under real stress—when a dog dies or something critical is happening in my life—I to silent. These are the times I want to be able to look back at, and they are all missing. So I decided to make a real effort to change.
I am going through a turbulent time now of trying to do so many things and make so many important decisions.
1. Get my hoarding under control and get back the full use of my house. I am sick of boxes and mess.
2. I HAVE to keep the yard up to snuff for the park and my new neighbors.
3. I have not one, but TWO garage sales to get ready for. One is here at the park on the 19th of this month and the other is on the 31st of August at the storage units. Both are group sales—park wide and units wide.
4. I am reducing my use of what little money I have for discretional spending. I am being ultra careful with my budget. No movie rentals, no clothes or jewelry—only a little McDonald’s and Wendy’s foods.
5. Storage fees go up the first of September. I MUST be out of one of the big units by the end of August. I will need help. Just looking at them staggers my willpower.
What things are stopping me?
1. My balance exercises at Physical Therapy really helped my balance, but as soon as I stopped going for help and did not practice at home, the balance problems returned. I have a really hard time on uneven ground, and my yard is ALL uneven.
2. I am making time to go to PT to use the equipment that is helping to strengthen my legs so that I can go on the bus trip to the space museum. It is taking more time than I have to give. I have to put on “away from home” clothes and then change back into work duds when I get back and it just eats up the minutes.
3. I am also using equipment to build arm strength to help with moving all these boxes and stuff. (I can actually see a bicep developing. It makes me smile.) It also helps me push myself back up after I topple over on the dirt.
4. I love my new neighbors and I am taking time to visit with them on both sides when we are out at the same time. I can feel the minutes ticking away.
5. Others in the park are also angry at the way the owner is treating us and we are going to start an effort to develop a Homeowner’s Association here in the park. I can join the state association for (I think) $25 but I have to drive to Port Orchard to sign up. I want to go because I will be able to speak with someone who is in the know about what services it offers. (More time.)
6. Poco’s leg continues to be a bother. According to the Internet, he may not necessarily become totally crippled. If I can get his weight down, he may just be lame. But if his carrying his weight on the other hip becomes bad enough, THAT leg could also become injured from the same patella problem. But it says he MUST have short walks so that takes TIME.
7. MY arthritis continues to worsen. The shot in my thumb is wearing off and it is again painful. I can still hold a glass, but having to do yard work (weeding and pruning) puts that thumb through a strong workout on a daily basis. My right foot has long had pain in the top of the foot that I experience when I walk. That is getting worse. That right ankle has also been painful. Dr. Gretch said that it was probably arthritis, but it has never been X-rayed. I have purchased simple black elastic ankle supports that do help, but in this hot weather they make my leg just pour sweat. The left ankle is also problematic, but not as bad as the right. The LAT pulls at PT are doing a lot to help the pain in my right shoulder, but it is still there.
8. Because of the foot, knee and ankle pain, I am trying to find nsaids that I can take for the pain. I don’t want to mess with anything addictive until I can’t handle the pain any more. Right now, I get the best results from the OTC nsaid, Excedrin. I had tried the combination of Ibuprofen and Tylenol that the dentist had me using when I had that root infection, but it does not work as well as Excedrin.
9. THIS HEAT! After 24 years in Anchorage and a little longer than that here in Poulsbo (where temps are NOT usually very warm) it is very hard on a fat lady not to melt. Two of my meds cause excessive sweating as a side effect, so I have no escape. It is just harder than ever to keep myself active with the sweat rolling down my forehead.
I am not finished with my recording of the SITUATION for now, but I have to go get my 2 prescriptions that have been filled on Auto-fill through Rite Aid. It is shady along the road where I walk Poco now, so I can kill 2 birds with one stone, then get home and set sprinklers to do the watering for today.
I feel like I have achieved something. It is a red letter day. I also made myself start a food diary. I am embarrassed to see how BADLY I am eating. I know what I should be eating and I am eating whatever is fastest to fix. Not healthy!

PATTY’S PHONE HAS BEEN DISCONNECTED
I am scared to death.
Patty’s phone has been disconnected.
I don’t know how to find out what has happened.

I FOUND MY BEAUTIFUL ARBOR ARCH ON PINTEREST…..
It is so interesting to post things to Pinterest. Every time I find something pretty or practical or something that I want to use some day in my life—or dream about it I know it will never BE in my life--I can put it on Pinterest.
Yesterday I was repinning stuff to my Landscaping Board and I ran across a lovely archway that looked familiar to me. It was in a small image, so I had to enlarge it to see the detail, but I found the bent rods coming down the sides and I saw the pieces on the top (don’t know what they are called) but they are little knob like features and they are the same as MY arch. Mine is a good 2+ feet taller than the one in the image because it has been set deep in the soil, as I imagine this one was intended to be placed to withstand wind once it has a heavy plant climbing over it. So I saved it and saved a copy to my computer so I could post it here. It is harder to make out because of the dark color. Mine is in PVC white and I would leave it white because I like it to show through the green leaves. But I want Richard to let me take it to CA with me. At present he is opposed, but I hope he will change his mind if we find a trailer or little house I can rent.
It is 5:51 in the morning, and I believe my computer is running some stupid scan or another because the keys are far behind my pressing before they show up on the screen.
I have about had it with the computer tonight. I had bought some MP3 music at amazon.com and I was irked to discover that the only way they will let me download music is with their stupid Cloud Player. When you buy something, it automatically goes to their Cloud. If you want to put it on your computer—which, of course, I do—I have to download and install their Cloud Player. I did not WANT that. I am happy with my Windows Media Player, but I installed the dwxyz thing and it downloaded 4 songs and then stopped. I had paid for an album and wanted to get THOSE down, but NO way. I spent half an hour or more looking at their help page and trying out all of their suggestions to no avail. I finally quit, went to the kitchen and got myself an apple, and came back to post the picture of my archway.
I had wasted the same hours last night trying to download my Pinterest Boards to my own computer in case of a server problem with Pinterest. No way. I could not get it with the best program they have designed to do back-ups because they demand that you use Firefox and I hate that one. It has such a stripped down look and is not very intuitive for a moderately savvy user. I am very happy with Chrome, but the little Pin4Ever does not work with Chrome. So I had tried saving the page as HTML by hitting the SAVE button for each page. To my distress, I discovered that out of 65 pins, it would only save 24 or 25 of the pins and leave the rest of the pages empty. Wrong! So I started saving them one pic at a time. TALK ABOUT TIME CONSUMING! I was so frustrated, I didn’t get to sleep till almost 11 a.m. Monday. So I slept till almost 6 p.m. There went Tuesday. It is now 6 a.m. on Wednesday and I am not going to sleep at all. I am going to go as long as I can today and then if I fall asleep at 7 I will (hopefully) have my day/night rhythm back to normal.
Of course, I MUST be awake Thursday night. That is the last pre-season game for the Hawks at home.
I have to get the rent check tomorrow. Our rent goes up $25 a month. I think he may have had his taxes go up because of the new Safeway going in so close. I notice several of the cute little Caldart Cottages are also for sale, so the real estate taxes may have jumped on homes. Ours have remained low, but they were a couple of years behind the drop In home prices before they cut our taxes. It is time to shut this thing down and go back to work.
I hope everyone who reads this is well and happy!

It Has Been a Long Time Away…..Again……
So much has been going on in my life that I have not sat down at the computer to write for weeks on end. With my sieve of a memory, most of what has happened is shaded in gray or completely gone.
I don’t remember exactly how long ago it was—on the one hand, it seems like yesterday, and OTOH it has been like forever ago—Richard called with the news that we had a marvelous opportunity to share a duplex. A friend of his was buying a place and would be doing some updating and was wondering if he would be interested.
I thought it was so much better than me moving into a residence of my own because of his proximity should I need assisted care. I would be able to pay someone to come in once in awhile in the daytime, and he would be near if I had a night time emergency. In the meantime, while I am healthy, I can help take care of his dogs if he and JD are going to be late at work or want a weekend away.
He had the great idea of sharing a car which would have stopped one insurance for him and I told him I would insure the car I used and pay for the gas, so he would get a reduction in outgo. I have not repaid any of the money he paid to fix my car in its recent emergency, so I am anxious to do something to repay him.
He had sent me the real estate ad so I was able to see the pictures the realtor had put online. He had seen it in person and called with more details. It sounded like we could make a nice situation out of it.
The problem for ME is getting this house cleaned up and emptied out. Either job will take a long time and to do BOTH as well as clean up the yard and empty two storage units, it is just more than I thought I could handle by the end of the year.
So it was almost an act of God that gave me some time, but destroyed my dream. The sale of the duplex fell through. So I will still plan to move to Ukiah and to rent somewhere, but the super security of having the kids next door is gone. I am going to hope that something better will turn up. I may not deserve it, but Richard does. He has done so much for others in his life, it is about time for life to return the favor.
Money is tight for both of us right now, so we are going back to what we were doing before the RUSH flag went up the pole. He is just finishing the remodel of his kitchen and I am working at getting flowers out of the yard and bushes pruned back to look good when the house goes on the market. Part of it is just regular care of the yard as it is now because I don’t have a built in sprinkler and the watering during the hot dry summer has been rigorous. We have had weeks of days in the 80s and this is VERY unusual for us here.
I also have plumbing to fix in the kitchen and a washer to repair, so I have my hands full.
I did see Dr. Gretch in this lapse of time. I was thrilled that my cholesterol was only 188. It had been over 200 last time, and I had stopped my supplements to see if they had really had any effect. All I had done was increase greatly the number of avocados I was eating (Safeway had them on sale for 78 cents) and I have been compulsive about forcing myself to walk with Poquito. I suspect it is the walking that helped the cholesterol.
I did find that my supplements were doing something important. After I stopped taking them, my weight only went up 3 or 4 pounds over 6 months, but my pants got much snugger. Pants that had had as much as two inches of fabric extra were now down to about half an inch of give. So I have resumed some of the supplements and will add the others as soon as I can force myself to remember to take them. There are so many and they are so big (in some cases) that with my throat/esophagus problems, it is hard to take more than one at a time, so it ends up being a constant trot to take this pill or that one. But I do realize that they play an actual part in my overall condition. Gotta figure a way to make it work.
Thank goodness Poco is well. I have been buying drug free tenderized beef and fixing it in the George Foreman grill. He has straight beef with some lo-fat cottage cheese and steamed broccoli off and on. He has started to ignore it if I don’t put a tiny bit of butter on it, but since he is now 11 pounds, I have stopped all cheese and butter. I try to get him to eat popcorn because he used to love that, but he wanted the kind that had butter on it, and if the pieces I give him don’t have enough of that taste, he refuses even that. He is spoiled, so I am going to have to go back to force-feeding him the way the vet said. She said 1/4 cup of kibbles at breakfast time for 10 minutes, and if he has not eaten it, take it away. Offer the same thing at dinner time and give him the same amount of time. She says when he is hungry enough, he will eat. Problem with that is that we have a crazy schedule. He is never up much before noon and is not hungry when he first wakes up. He also likes to eat just before he goes to sleep. It won’t be easy and I hate to add that to the other problems on my “list.”
The one delightfully happy thing in my life is the Seattle Seahawks! I have people I see every time I get groceries, or go to the post office, or go to the credit union. All of them either love the Hawks, or know how much *I* love the Hawks, so we talk about what is going on and how the city is so excited about this team. They have won all 3 of their pre-season games, but these don’t count on their win-loss record for the year. Those games are a couple of weeks away. We play one more that doesn’t count in the record this coming weekend, and we play a team that also has a black quarterback, but he is very tall and very athletic and was the Russell Wilson of a couple of years ago. He has a very good team. I hope they won’t beat our guys.
My poor Mariners have not been so lucky. I swear, when they get good pitching, the guys can’t hit their way out of a paper bag with the end held open. Then when they are banging out the home runs (they were 3rd in all of baseball for home runs last I heard), the PITCHING stinks. OR, when they are hitting and the starting pitchers are great, they will get to the 9th inning and the closer will blow the save and all the good work goes down the drain and they lose. But even with all the problems, it has been an exciting year. They finally brought up some of the kids from AAA who have been so much fun to watch. Not only can they hit, but they are good fielders and they can run, so we have stolen bases and great double plays, etc. But fandom is all over their case because they aren’t WINNING!! Seattle has a lot of front-runner fans. I hate that.
The managers feel the pressure. Our head coach suffered a minor stroke at the ball park a month ago. He described it in an interview on the sports station. I will recognize the symptoms if they happen to me.
It is 6:30 and it is light outside. I need to get some sleep. I slept away most of yesterday so I need to get something done today. I hope this posts without problem!
